What are email segments and why should you use them? Email segments take your full email list and break them up into categories based on different criteria.

It is important to make sure that the emails you are sending out are going to people who are going to find them useful. Your family that exclusively takes Disney trips probably isn’t going to book a trip to the mountains for a week. Segmenting customers ensures that you’re sending the right message to the right customer at the right time.

Ways to segment:

By demographic (location, age, etc)

Location can play an important role in what promotions you are sending to people. If you have a cruise that leaves from a specific port, it is more likely to get a better response for those who live within a reasonable travel distance from it.
Different aged customers are usually looking for different things when they travel. Older people may be more interested in group travel experiences while younger generations are more interested in a trip that offers them more freedom to experience culture on their own schedule.

Past bookings

As mentioned above, it may not be worth your time to send an email about a skiing mountain trip to your family who exclusively vacations at Disney. You want to make sure that the information is relevant for who you are sending it to so it is more likely to be opened.
